Lisbon Architecture Triennale Explores Sustainability and Democracy

The 6th Lisbon Architecture Triennale, titled "Terra," is curated by Cristina Verissimo and Diogo Burnay. Running across multiple venues including MAAT, Culturgest, Garagem Sul – CCB, and MNAC, the event focuses on the concept of the "city-organism"—living bodies in harmony with ecosystems. The Triennale features four exhibition projects addressing social challenges, climate change, and inequality, with a strong emphasis on the Global South. Notable exhibitions include "Retroactive" at MAAT's Central Tejo, curated by Loreta Castro Reguera and José Pablo Ambrosi, showcasing small- and medium-scale urban regeneration projects from Brazil, Cambodia, and Haiti. "Visionaries" at Culturgest, curated by Anastassia Smirnova, highlights community-driven projects like Auroville in India. "Multiplicity" at MNAC explores how architecture and design can address inequality and climate change, featuring initiatives from Sri Lanka and India. Italy is notably absent due to a perceived lack of ambitious architectural culture. The Triennale runs through 2022 in Lisbon, Portugal.
