Lisbon Architecture Triennale 2025 Explores the 'Weight' of Cities

architecture-design · 2026-04-26

The 7th Lisbon Architecture Triennale, named 'How heavy is a city' and overseen by the Territorial Agency (Ann-Sofi Rönnskog and John Palmesino), is set to continue until December 8, 2025. This event investigates the environmental effects of urbanization through displays at MAAT, Central Tejo, Centro Cultural de Belém, and Museu do Design. José Mateus, the president of the Triennale, seeks to involve the local community in discussions about architecture. The focus is on communities in the Global South that are working to decrease fossil fuel consumption. Curators stress the importance of learning from these initiatives to reduce ecological impacts. Highlighted projects include 'Correspondences, ongoing' by Soundwalk Collective and Patti Smith, alongside 'The Thermodynamic Garden' by Pablo Pérez-Ramos. Yasmeen Lari was honored with the Millennium Achievement Award for her sustainable architecture work in Pakistan.
