Lisa Ponti, daughter of Gio Ponti, dies at 97
Lisa Licitra Ponti, born in 1922 in Milan, died at age 97. Her son Matteo Licitra announced the news on Facebook. She was the daughter of renowned architect, designer, and academic Gio Ponti, from whom she inherited a brilliant and creative mind. Her childhood home at via Randaccio 9 was frequented by artists like Giorgio De Chirico, Leonardo Sinisgalli, and Domenico Cantatore. At 19, she published a poetry book, 'Gio Ponti agli amici' (1941), and later 'L'armadio magico' (1946), a collection of fables. After graduating in Philosophy of Aesthetics, she collaborated with her father on the magazines 'Stile' and 'Domus' from 1940 to 1979, and independently handled art pages for 'Domus' until 1986. She also wrote freelance on art, architecture, and design. Her sketches, long unknown, were playful and poetic, often accompanied by rhymes. Many were left to gallerist Federico Vavassori and exhibited at Studio Legale Withers in Milan in the 'Withers meets Art' project, including series like 'Progetti' with collages of sky cutouts.
