Língua Solta exhibition at Museu da Língua Portuguesa explores words in contemporary art and everyday objects.

The exhibition Língua Solta, overseen by curators Moacir dos Anjos and Fabiana Moraes, is currently on display at the Museu da Língua Portuguesa until October. This showcase fuses contemporary art with everyday items to examine language as a symbol. It juxtaposes high and popular culture, featuring notable artworks alongside commercial packaging and protest banners. The curators highlight how language breathes life into objects without claiming universality. Political themes emerge through works that convey identities and aspirations, such as letters from children in Maré addressing police violence and a tribute plaque for Marielle Franco. Divided into six themes—media, resistance, home, street, religiosity, and pedagogy—the exhibition includes contributions from artists like Arthur Bispo do Rosário and Mira Schendel. Elida Tessler's installation showcases clothespins inscribed with words from participants. Initially intended as a permanent feature, it transitioned to a temporary exhibition due to pandemic-related obstacles, available by appointment until June and set to reopen in late July.
