Linea di Confine's Visual Research on Factories and Infrastructure

The exhibition 'On Borders. Sui confini' opened December 7 at Palazzo dei Musei in Reggio Emilia, presenting the first Italian display of the Linea di Confine collection. The show features 260 photographs and four videos created between 1989 and 2022, drawn from over thirty investigations commissioned by the association. Curated by Ilaria Campioli, Monica Leoni, and Walter Guadagnini, the exhibition is organized into eight sections plus two showcases of documentary materials. It highlights early workshops involving photographers such as Olivo Barbieri, Paola de Pietri, Guido Guidi, Walter Niedermayr, Alex Hütte, John Gossage, and Tim Davis. Projects include documentation of the TAV high-speed rail construction, Paola De Pietri's 2013 study of ceramic industry groups in Emilia, a commission on healthcare spaces from 2005, and a collective project on Via Emilia featuring Franco Vaccari and Lewis Baltz. The association, founded forty years ago, donated its archive to the Fototeca della Biblioteca Panizzi in 2023. Olivo Barbieri noted that photography was the most important art of the last century, while Paola De Pietri emphasized the association's crucial support for young photographers. The exhibition runs until March 23.
