Linea d'Ombra Festival Returns to Salerno with 'Eroika' Theme

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

The 23rd edition of Linea d'Ombra, a film festival in Salerno, Italy, will take place from December 8 to 15, 2018. Artistic director Luigi Marmo explained the theme 'Eroika' as a reflection on altruism and the search for modern heroes in a time of interconnected solitude and fear. The festival will screen approximately 170 titles, including feature films, shorts, documentaries, vertical videos, and animations. Notable out-of-competition films include La strada dei Samouni by Stefano Savona, The Square by Ruben Östlund, Il ragazzo più felice del mondo by Gipi, and La cordillera by Santiago Mitre. Special guests include Gabriele Muccino, Paolo Ruffini, Gipi, Antonio Capuano, Biagio Izzo, Tony Tammaro, Luca Miniero, and set designer Monica Vittucci. A focus on Syria will feature journalist Amedeo Ricucci, Fouad Roueiha, and professor Giorgia Iovino. YouTuber Sabaku No Maiku will discuss cinema and video games. Radio Capital will host an opening event with Parole Note live, and DJs Massimiliano Troiani and Mixo will close the festival. Founded by Peppe D'Antonio in 1996, the festival has expanded to include music, performing arts, and visual arts but returns to its cinematic roots this year with the Cinedrome, a cinema village in the center of Salerno. The provocative poster by art director Robywan connects to the theme of humanity and equality, echoing the festival's message: 'We could be heroes, at least for a day.'
