LINEA, a New Photography and Contemporary Image Center, Opens in Salento

In Lecce, a new school and exhibition space dedicated to photography and contemporary image has opened. LINEA, founded by Alice Caracciolo, launched in December 2020 as a response to the need for a space focused on photography as a medium for contemporary art. The school offers a two-year program combining practical and theoretical training, with courses taught by a team of artists, photographers, curators, photo editors, and gallerists. It also features a public program of exhibitions and live performances. The inaugural exhibition, "Deep Site," by Luca Coclite, includes video, photographic, and sculptural works. The show also features a sound intervention by Vincenzo Procino and Mauro Diciocia, curated by Aaltra. Caracciolo collaborated with architect Caterina Quarta and artists Marco Vitale and Mariantonietta Clotilde Palasciano on the space's curatorial direction. LINEA aims to bridge the gap between the public and contemporary art, fostering dialogue between artists, curators, and audiences. The initiative is part of a growing independent art scene in Lecce and Puglia, which has seen increased activity from artist-run spaces and independent projects, though public institutions remain largely disconnected.
