Lindsay Harris Appointed Artistic Director of American Academy in Rome

Lindsay Harris has been named artistic director of the American Academy in Rome, marking her third role at the institution after being a fellow in 2013-14 and a professor of Humanities. The Winter Open Studios feature installations by American and Italian fellows including Firelei Báez, Eric N. Mack, William Villalongo, Phoebe Lickwar, Mireille Roddier, Keith Mitnick, Valerio Morabito, and Tina Tallon. Performances by Igor Santos and Autumn Knight's relational piece "Niente/Nothing #5" also took place. Harris, an art historian and curator with a background in photography from the National Gallery of Art in Washington, aims to connect fellows with Rome's resources beyond classical art, addressing contemporary issues like racial justice and migration. She plans to involve architect Yolande Daniels of studioSUMO as a mentor and support fellows in exploring non-canonical topics such as migrant experiences in Lampedusa and the representation of the Moor in Piazza Navona's fountain.
