Lina Ghotmeh to Design Qatar Pavilion at Venice Biennale Gardens
Lina Ghotmeh has emerged victorious in the contest to create the Qatar Pavilion at the Giardini della Biennale in Venice, marking her inaugural permanent structure in Italy. The competition, overseen by Malcolm Reading Consultants for Qatar Museums and led by Rem Koolhaas, featured a jury that included Alejandro Aravena, Massimiliano Gioni, and Manuela Luca-Dazio. Over a span of 20 weeks, nine finalists presented their designs. Positioned next to the Stirling Pavilion, this pavilion will be the third new addition to the Giardini in more than half a century. Further details will be disclosed during the 19th International Architecture Exhibition, featuring a dialogue between Ghotmeh and Sheikha Al Mayassa on May 8. Ghotmeh envisions a versatile venue for contemporary art and architecture, highlighting Qatar's cultural importance.
