Ligabue and Vitaloni in Dialogue at Palazzo Tarasconi, Parma
The Fondazione Archivio Antonio Ligabue di Parma presents 'LIGABUE & VITALONI. Dare voce alla natura' at Palazzo Tarasconi, part of Parma Capitale Italiana della Cultura 2020+2021. The exhibition, open until May 30, 2021, features 83 paintings and four sculptures by Antonio Ligabue (Zurich, 1899 – Gualtieri, 1965) alongside 15 works by contemporary artist Michele Vitaloni (Milan, 1967), a leading figure in Wildlife Art and sculptural hyperrealism. Curated by Augusto Agosta Tota, Marzio Dall’Acqua, and Vittorio Sgarbi, the show explores Ligabue's expressionist language, with Sgarbi noting his self-portraits reveal inner turmoil and a quest for self-understanding. The exhibition design by Cesare Inzerillo balances the two artistic voices. A bilingual three-volume catalogue, 'Catalogo generale di Antonio Ligabue. Pitture, sculture, disegni e incisioni,' accompanies the show. The exhibition is dedicated to actor Flavio Bucci, who portrayed Ligabue in Salvatore Nocita's 1982 film. Additionally, Fidenza Village, part of The Bicester Village Shopping Collection, hosts Ligabue's 'Leopardo su roccia' from September 16 to November 1, 2020, as an official partner. A creative contest, 'This is your Moment,' invites young talents to reinterpret the village's landmarks with Ligabue's style, creating a 'show within a show.' Street artists and illustrators will decorate the village architecture. The exhibition space at Palazzo Tarasconi is newly adapted for this event.
