Lidia Bagnara's Jerusalem Photographs at Nonostante Marras

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Lidia Bagnara's solo exhibition 'In Zir – I miei viaggi verso Gerusalemme' opens at Nonostante Marras in Milan, featuring around one hundred photographs taken between 1991 and 2021. The show, curated by Francesca Alfano Miglietti, captures the spirit of Jerusalem through images shot in India, Cappadocia, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Israel, Egypt, and Italy. Bagnara, born in Ravenna in 1959, works in an instinctive, spontaneous style blending documentary and painting. The title 'In Zir' is Romagnolo dialect for 'wandering aimlessly.' On June 23, 2021, the exhibition opened alongside the launch of her book 'Jerusalem,' published by Danilo Montanari with texts by Giovanna Calvenzi and Manuela Dviri, a photographic reportage built over three years (2015–2018). Calvenzi describes Bagnara as a traveler who returns with images of emotions rather than mere photographs.
