LibridaAsporto: free book delivery supports independent Italian bookstores during lockdown
During the COVID-19 lockdown, Italian bookstores were closed and distribution severely limited. In response, the LibridaAsporto project was launched to support independent bookstores not belonging to publishing groups and lacking online sales services. Coordinated by consulting and marketing firm NW, 120 publishers contributed to a fund covering transport costs for orders placed at 651 participating bookstores, enabling free home delivery. By April 4, 6,251 shipments had been made, with a fund of €52,856 raised (36.29% used for shipping). Customers can choose a bookstore from the list at libridaasporto.it, contact it online, and pay via bank transfer, PayPal, or Satispay. Delivery takes about 5 working days, suspended for Easter (April 10-13). Luca Possenti, owner of Rome's Pagina 272 bookstore, said the initiative gave independent bookstores a small respite and noted high demand, suggesting books are considered essential goods.
