Libri Finti Clandestini's Vintage Tutorial for DIY Bookmaking at Home

Italian collective Libri Finti Clandestini, based in Milan's Isola district, has released a three-part video tutorial on Instagram (@librifinticlandestini) teaching DIY bookbinding using household waste materials like paper scraps, shopping bags, and wallpaper. The collective, which started as a passion project, transforms discarded paper into notebooks, sketchbooks, and travel journals through self-production processes. Collaborating with graphic duo 5XLetterpress, they blend collage with editorial lettering. During the COVID-19 lockdown, unable to access their workshop, they created the tutorial using vintage 1950s-60s footage and a sardonic voiceover to guide viewers.
