Libero Cinema in Libera Terra: 20th edition brings film to confiscated mafia properties

The 20th edition of Libero Cinema in Libera Terra, an itinerant festival, will screen films and performances in properties confiscated from organized crime, as well as in peripheral areas and ports across Italy. The festival runs from July 8 to July 19, 2025, covering 12 locations in 6 regions. This year's themes are the right to movement and the fluidity of mafias. Key stops include Ventimiglia (July 8), Catania (July 12), where a boat confiscated from the mafia will be named after Commissioner Beppe Montana on the 40th anniversary of his murder, and Rome's Tor Bella Monaca district (July 19), on the anniversary of the Via D'Amelio massacre, in collaboration with the Spiazzamenti festival. Other stops include Camaiore, Polistena, San Cipirello, Messina, Maiano di Sessa Aurunca, and Cerignola. The program features live performances such as 'Mafia Liquida' by Vito Baroncini and the documentary 'Allacciate le cinture. Il viaggio di Io Capitano in Senegal' by Tommaso Merighi (produced with Rai Cinema), along with films like 'Il giudice e il boss' by Pasquale Scimeca, 'C'è ancora domani' by Paola Cortellesi, and the Oscar-winning documentary 'No Other Land' (2025). The festival is organized in collaboration with Libera associations, cooperatives, schools, and citizens. Elisabetta Antognoni, founder of Cinemovel, is the festival's founder.
