Liang Shaoji's Silkworm Art Explores Time and Void in Shanghai Exhibition
The solo exhibition titled 'PSA Collection Series: Liang Shaoji – A Silky Entanglement' debuted at the Power Station of Art in Shanghai on 29 September 2021 and is set to continue until 20 February 2022. Liang Shaoji, born in 1945 in Shanghai, has dedicated 25 years to residing in a temple on Mount Tiantai, where he practices meditation and silkworm cultivation. Since 1988, his artistic endeavors have merged biology, sociology, and Zen philosophy, utilizing silkworms as a medium. His significant works include 'Destiny' (2012–14), 'Snow Cover' (2014), and 'Mending Sky' (2011). Influenced by the Tiantai school's teachings and philosopher Giorgio Agamben, Liang's art delves into themes of time, the origins of life, and humanity's connection to nature through the remnants of silkworms.
