Liam Payne inquest delayed as coroner awaits evidence from Argentina

other · 2026-05-07

The inquiry into the passing of Liam Payne, the former One Direction member, has been postponed as senior coroner Crispin Butler is still waiting for additional evidence from Argentina. During a pre-inquest review at Beaconsfield Coroner's Court on Thursday, Butler mentioned there had been no new information since a January 2025 review, where he requested comprehensive reports and eyewitness accounts. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has yet to provide further details. Payne, aged 31, died in October 2024 after a fall from a third-floor balcony at the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires, with a post-mortem indicating multiple traumas and internal and external hemorrhage. In February 2025, an Argentine court dismissed criminal negligence charges against three of the five individuals involved. Butler confirmed that translated documents would be sent to Payne's family, who were not present at the hearing. The inquest will reconvene for another pre-inquest review on 1 December.
