Liam Gillick and New Order Collaborate on Deconstructed Performances for Manchester International Festival
The Manchester International Festival 2017 is set to present 'New Order + Liam Gillick: So it goes…', a partnership between New Order and British artist Liam Gillick, featuring five performances at Old Granada Studios during June and July 2017. The band will reinterpret their music while Gillick constructs an immersive setting. Joining them will be a synthesiser ensemble of 12 musicians from the Royal Northern College of Music, under the direction of Joe Duddell. Gillick expressed admiration for New Order's impact on his artistic vision. Festival director John McGrath highlighted the profound nature of their collaboration. Additionally, 'True Faith', an exhibition curated by Matthew Higgs and Jon Savage at Manchester Art Gallery, will delve into the visual art legacy of Joy Division and New Order, opening on June 30.
