Li Ming Receives Hugo Boss Asia Art Award 2017 with New Video Installation at Shanghai Exhibition

Li Ming, an artist based in Hangzhou, has been named the recipient of the 2017 Hugo Boss Asia Art Award. The award recognizes artists from Greater China and Southeast Asia and includes a cash prize of RMB 300,000 (approximately £34,200). A jury of five members and twelve nominators selected Li from four finalists: Tao Hui and Yu Ji from China, and Robert Zhao Renhui from Singapore. Li's practice primarily involves video and video installations. His new work, Rendering the Mind (2017), is featured in the award exhibition at Rockbund Art Museum in Shanghai, which runs until 11 February 2018. Larys Frogier, director of Rockbund Art Museum, praised Li's work in a statement, describing it as one of the most significant contemporary visual creations that skillfully merges performance, video, and sound. Frogier noted that Li's artworks have expanded the media field and introduced a distinctive sensitivity, creating time and space filled with endless interpretive possibilities.
