Levy Gorvy Presents Carol Rama: Eye of Eyes in New York
Levy Gorvy in New York is hosting 'Carol Rama: Eye of Eyes', a solo exhibition dedicated to the Italian artist Carol Rama (Turin, 1918–2015), curated by Flavia Frigeri. The show explores the historical, social, and cultural background that influenced Rama's poetics and artistic production, contextualizing her work within Turin's transformation into a capital of Italian industrial rebirth and the birthplace of Arte Povera. Rama frequented figures such as Felice Casorati, Pablo Picasso, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Italo Calvino, and Carlo Mollino. The exhibition includes early figurative watercolors like 'Opera n. 18' (1939) and 'Appassionata' (1941), which were censored at their first public showing at Galleria Gaber in Turin in 1945 due to explicit sexual content. Also on view are 'Bricolage' works from 1964 to 1968, assemblages on canvas named by poet Edoardo Sanguineti, created after Rama joined the Movimento Arte Concreta. The exhibition runs until March 23, 2019, at Levy Gorvy, 909 Madison Avenue.
