Letizia Ragaglia Appointed Director of MASI Lugano Starting March 2026

Letizia Ragaglia, born in Montebelluna in 1969, will become the new director of the Museo d'arte della Svizzera italiana (MASI) in Lugano from mid-March 2026. She recently left her position as director of the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein in Vaduz, where she was succeeded by art historian Christiane Meyer-Stoll. In an interview, Ragaglia reflected on her five-year tenure in Vaduz, emphasizing her focus on collections, research, and sustainability. She highlighted the importance of making collections more inclusive and engaging local communities through initiatives like free Wednesdays and the 'Artist Choice' format, where artists curated exhibitions from the collection. Ragaglia also introduced performance art and social projects such as 'Il parlamento delle piante.' At MASI, she aims to apply her experience from Bolzano and Liechtenstein while adapting to the Ticino context. She envisions the museum as a convivial, neighborhood-oriented institution, inspired by Eric Crosby's concept of 'neighborhood museums' as discussed in Artforum. Ragaglia stresses transparency with her team and the need for museums to act globally with local aspirations.
