Letizia Battaglia: Photographer Speaks Out Against Newspaper Directors
At the 16th edition of La Festa di Cinema del Reale, held at Castello Volante in Corigliano d'Otranto, Italian photojournalism pioneer Letizia Battaglia (born Palermo, 1935) gave an interview criticizing newspaper directors for their lack of respect toward photographers. Battaglia, who began her career in adulthood, is known for her civil commitment through photography, politics, publishing, social activism, theater, and cinema. The festival hosts an exhibition of fifty black-and-white photographs spanning her career, on view until October in the Tabaccaia hall of the castle.
