Les Giacometti: A Family of Creators at Fondation Maeght
The Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul de Vence presents 'Les Giacometti: Une Famille de Créateurs,' a comprehensive exhibition curated by photographer and filmmaker Peter Knapp. The show explores the artistic legacy of the Giacometti family, originating from Borgonovo di Stampa in Ticino, Switzerland. It is divided into sections focusing on each family member: Giovanni Giacometti (1868-1933) and his cousin Augusto Giacometti (1877-1947), whose works reflect influences from Hodler to Die Brücke and a move toward abstraction; Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966) and his brother Diego Giacometti (1902-1985), known for their sculpture and design objects; and Bruno Giacometti (1907-2012), an architect who designed the Swiss Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. The exhibition, designed by architect and designer Olivier Gagnère, features a rare selection of furniture and decorative objects created by Alberto and Diego, highlighting their mastery beyond mere decoration. Alberto's iconic sculptures, with their fragmented contours, are displayed both indoors and in the foundation's outdoor spaces. The show runs until November 14, 2021.
