Les Extatiques: Site-Specific Installations Invade Paris La Défense

Eight artists created site-specific works for Les Extatiques, an outdoor exhibition at Paris La Défense curated by Fabrice Bosteau, running until October 6, 2019. The installations join 73 existing pieces in the district's open-air collection. Benedetto Bufalino suspends a car on a lamppost, critiquing pollution and car fetishism. Pierre Ardouvin presents a metal sign asking 'Who sows the wind?', reflecting on human responsibility. Choi Jeong Hwa's Breathing Flower uses inflatable plastic petals to allude to lost green areas in Korea. Designs in Air (Luke Egan and Pete Hamilton) installs a giant octopus climbing a building as a metaphor for ecosystem revolt. Fujiko Nakaya creates a fog sculpture with 500 nozzles around Bassin Takis, exploring ephemeral natural phenomena. Malaysian collective Pangrok Sulap (Rizo Leong, Jirum Manjat, Mc Feddy) exhibits woodcut prints addressing socio-political issues of Sabah's marginalized communities. Philippe Ramette's Éloge de l'envol is a giant swing symbolizing flight and freedom of thought.
