Lerici Named UNWTO Best Tourism Village 2023
The UNWTO honored the Italian village of Lerici with the Best Tourism Village 2023 title during an event in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Lerici was chosen from a pool of 260 applications submitted by 60 countries, making it one of 54 selected villages. Previous Italian recipients include San Ginesio (2021) and Sauris, along with Isola del Giglio (2022). This accolade enables participation in a UNWTO initiative aimed at promoting sustainable rural tourism. With a population exceeding 10,000, Lerici is renowned for its Gulf of Poets setting and commitment to cultural heritage. Civita di Bagnoregio and Sabbioneta are also part of the enhancement program. Italian Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè and Mayor Leonardo Paoletti emphasized the importance of quality tourism experiences.
