Leonora Carrington's Sculptures Spotlighted in Rare New York Exhibition
L'Space Gallery in New York is presenting "Shape of Dreams: Sculptures by Leonora Carrington," a rare exhibition focused on the British Mexican Surrealist's bronze sculptures and jewelry, on view through June 27, 2026. Produced with Consigna Gallery of Mexico City and the Leonora Carrington Council, the show includes significant works like The Palmist (2010), her first monumental public piece, later installed in Mexico City's Jardín del Antiguo Palacio del Arzobispado. Another highlight, La Inventora del Atole, references Mesoamerican traditions. An interactive Tarot Reading Booth features an A.I. reconstruction of Carrington's voice delivering readings in English, Spanish, and French. The exhibition also includes works by her son, Pablo Weisz Carrington, including a collaborative piece. Carrington, born in Lancashire in 1917, was influenced by Max Ernst after the 1936 International Surrealist Exhibition in London, and moved to Mexico City in the early 1940s. Her sculptures bring her fantastical, mythological themes into three dimensions.
