Leonor Antunes presents Portugal Pavilion at 2019 Venice Biennale with site-specific sculptures
At the 2019 Venice Biennale, Leonor Antunes showcases her work titled 'a seam, a surface, a hinge, or a knot' at Palazzo Giustinian Lolin, marking her first citation of art historian Briony Fer. Her exhibition delves into themes from earlier displays in Milan and the 2017 Biennale, emphasizing post-war Italian design through the lens of architects such as Carlo Scarpa and Franco Albini, with a spotlight on often-overlooked female figures. The display includes site-specific sculptures in the courtyard and first-floor galleries, featuring wall lamps by Trincanato and Scarpa-inspired sculptures. Antunes partners with local workshops to uphold traditional craftsmanship. The pavilion was selected through an open call evaluated by a jury appointed by the Ministry of Culture. The Biennale is open from May 11 to November 24, 2019.
