Leonor Antunes Exhibition at MASP Explores Modernist Experimentalism Through Lina Bo Bardi
The exhibition titled Leonor Antunes: vazios, intervalos e juntas is currently displayed at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo – Masp, running until April 12, 2020. Curated by Adriano Pedrosa and Amanda Carneiro, it centers around architect Lina Bo Bardi, particularly her Glass House in Morumbi. Portuguese artist Leonor Antunes, who has lived in Berlin since 2005, creates an archive reflecting 20th-century experimentalism, drawing on the works of artists such as Anni Albers and Eileen Grey. Located on the museum's first basement level, key pieces include Villa Neufer, a sculpture made from Albini's staircase, and Lygia Clark's 1952 painting Planos em Superfície Modulada. Antunes represented Portugal at the 2019 Venice Biennale, asserting she would have declined if right-wing parties were in power. The exhibition concludes the MASP's 2019 thematic focus on women's histories and runs alongside works by Anna Bella Geiger and Gego.
