Lenz Fondazione president Francesco Pititto calls for theatre reform post-pandemic

opinion-review · 2026-04-27

In an open letter featured in Artribune, Francesco Pititto, the president of Lenz Fondazione, discussed the future of theatre in a post-COVID-19 world, highlighting the importance of the physical body in both theatre and social interactions. He endorsed five initiatives proposed by Oberdan Forlenza, president of Fondazione Teatro Due di Parma: the immediate release of the full 2020 FUS, a non-repayable fund for venue renovations, tax breaks on ticket prices, a solidarity fund for vulnerable performing arts workers, and assistance for cinema operations. Additionally, he supported Mauro Felicori's recommendations for the survival of unsupported organizations and the revival of the Codice dello Spettacolo reform by 2021. Pititto urged a reevaluation of theatre practices, concluding that the return of theatre will coincide with the availability of a vaccine, and welcomed ideas for adaptation.
