Lenora de Barros retrospective at Pinacoteca explores body, language, and clay across four decades
The exhibition 'Minha língua: Lenora de Barros' at Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo presents 40 works spanning the artist's four-decade career, emphasizing her experimental combination of languages. Curated by Pollyanna Quintella and commissioned by the Pinacoteca, the show includes the 2022 videoperformance 'A Cara. A Língua. O Ventre.', created during the exhibition process. This central work features Lenora slowly sculpting a large tongue from clay, exploring sensuality and illusionism. The exhibition reveals her conceptual approach to the word 'língua'—as organ, language, and idiom—a theme reiterated at this year's Flip festival. Other series like 'Não Quero Nem Ver' (2005) and 'Procuro-me' (2003) are included, with the latter now part of the Pinacoteca's permanent collection after being vandalized in 2002 by the group Art-Attack. The show runs from October 8, 2022, to April 9, 2023, at Praça da Luz, 2, São Paulo.
