Lélia Demoisy Hybridizes Nature in Sculpture at Galerie By Lara Sedbon

French sculptor Lélia Demoisy, born in 1991, creates works that hybridize natural materials and forms, emphasizing ecological awareness. Her exhibition "Polyfaunie Polyflorie" at Galerie By Lara Sedbon in Paris features pieces like a cedar wood skin, a beech wood sabot, and a brass cone containing seeds from her childhood cedar. Demoisy, who lives in a Yvelines village, works directly with wood and metal, often sourcing materials locally. Notable works include "La Belle Mort" (2022), a dead tree carved into bone shapes and returned to decompose on Île Fleurie, and a 2023 cape made from forest wood shards. She participated in the Maif pour le vivant committee, the only artist on the jury. Her 2025 piece "L'Expérience de Daphné," created with hospitalized patients for the Carta Bianca prize, invites viewers to place their heads in a lime tree trunk and listen to sounds blending human and arboreal life. Upcoming at Domaine de Chamarande, she will install a monumental work using a hornbeam trunk imprinted with local animal tracks. Demoisy cites Jean Carriès and activist artist Suzanne Husky as influences. She sells 200 plants grown from her felled cedar as artworks, retaining moral rights to ensure their protection.
