Lek & Sowat paint train car in Salento with Duchamp homage for Capo d'Arte

artist · 2026-05-05

French graffiti artists Lek & Sowat, currently in residence at Villa Medici in Rome, have painted a train car of Ferrovie Sud-Est at Gagliano del Capo station in Salento, referencing Marcel Duchamp's R. Mutt. The intervention is part of a partnership between Capo d'Arte and Villa Medici. The project unfolds across three locations in two phases. The preliminary phase also includes a project room at Palazzo Daniele, home of Francesco Petrucci, who animates Capo d'Arte with Francesca Bonomo. The main project, curated by Massimo Torrigiani, will be inaugurated on July 30, with Lek & Sowat also rethinking a building facade, prompting reflection on abusive buildings and creative reuse. The non-profit space Lastation, run by Ramdom, is also involved.
