Legendary Hotel Gabrielli in Venice reopens July 2025 after restoration

The legendary Hotel Gabrielli in Venice reopens on July 9, 2025, as a five-star property under Starhotels Collezione. Located on Riva degli Schiavoni with views of San Giorgio Maggiore, Punta della Dogana, and the San Marco basin, the hotel has been closed for meticulous restoration. Originally opened in 1856 and run by the Perkhofer family, it now enters Starhotels' portfolio via a lease agreement. The restoration, coordinated by designer Andrea Auletta, preserved the historic facade with quadrifore windows and involved local artisans. Over 700 chandeliers and appliques by Murano glass masters Archimede Seguso and Pauly & C. were restored. The hotel features a private garden of over 600 square meters, the largest on Venice's central island, with ancient olive trees. New additions include the panoramic Terrazza Gabrielli with a 360-degree sky bar, Ristorante Caffè Gabrielli, K Lounge Bar, a winter garden courtyard with an ancient well, a Ballroom, and an exclusive spa. Room count was reduced from 105 to 66 for exclusivity. Starhotels president Elisabetta Fabri emphasized the conservation approach, following similar projects at Helvetia & Bristol in Florence and Hotel d'Inghilterra in Rome. The hotel was once a refuge for intellectuals and artists, and inspired Franz Kafka's love letters to Felice Bauer.
