Legarti: new artist residency program launches in Ulassai, Sardinia
The village of Ulassai, known for its Tacchi canyons and textile tradition linked to Maria Lai, will host Legarti, a new artist residency program from June 2025 to spring 2026. Curated by Valentina Anselmi, the initiative invites over ten international artists and collectives to create site-specific projects, aiming to foster cultural regeneration through art, nature, and social participation. Funded by the PNRR M1C3 Tourism and Culture (Intervention 2.1 'Attractiveness of Villages' Line A) and promoted by the Municipality of Ulassai, Legarti involves a network of research institutions, Sardinian and Italian universities, museums, cooperatives, cultural enterprises, and local businesses. The first residency, from June 12 to 22, 2025, will feature Turin-based graphic design studio FIONDA, which will develop the project's visual identity through workshops and participatory research. Mayor Giovanni Soru emphasized the multidisciplinary, relational, and participatory approach, positioning Ulassai as open to global artistic languages including photography, sculpture, ceramics, textile design, conceptual art, and performance.
