Lee Ufan's 'Relatum' Exhibition at Palais des Papes in Avignon

The Festival d'Avignon concludes on July 25, 2026, having highlighted Korean language through theater. Concurrently, the city of Avignon hosts a major exhibition by renowned Korean contemporary artist Lee Ufan at the Palais des Papes, running until November 11. The centerpiece is 'Primitive Room', a monumental installation in the palace chapel requiring over 60 tons of slate spread across 650 m². Lee Ufan, who recently turned 90, designed the work in response to the historic religious site, aiming to create a space that evokes humanity's origins and nature's power. The exhibition title 'Relatum' signifies union and relationship. Alain Lombard, president of the Lee Ufan museum in Arles, describes the artist as a philosopher and poet whose work encourages contemplation.
