Lee Bontecou Returns with Dual Gallery Exhibitions Curated by Bruce Ferguson

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Lee Bontecou has made her way back to the New York art world, showcasing her work in concurrent exhibitions at two different galleries. Curated by Bruce Ferguson, Dean of Columbia University's School of the Arts, the shows are based on Karl Marx's idea that consumption equates to production. The first exhibition is hosted at Kimberly Venardos Gallery, located at 1014 Madison Avenue, from April 22 to May 29, 2004. The second can be found at Knoedler & Company on 19 East 70 Street, running from May 6 to July 30, 2004. Bontecou's artistic journey began in the 1960s with support from Leo Castelli, and the Mary Boone Gallery at 745 5th Avenue is also associated with her. Ferguson's curation combines elements of subtlety and grandeur. This article was initially published in the New York Sun on May 20, 2004.
