Leandro Erlich's Illusionary Spaces at Palais de Tokyo and MACRO
Argentine artist Leandro Erlich (born 1973, Buenos Aires) presents works that transform everyday spaces into perceptual puzzles. His installations, including "La Piscine" (2001) which appeared at the Venice Biennale, feature familiar rooms with deliberate anomalies: a mirror that doesn't reflect, a staircase that leads nowhere, a building facade laid flat. The exhibition "Notre Histoire" at Palais de Tokyo in Paris includes "Smoking Room," while "Portes" opens at MACRO in Rome on January 27, 2006. Erlich's work, described as a "game of seven errors," uses architectural elements to create fictional spaces that challenge viewers' perception of reality. The artist lives and works in Buenos Aires and Paris. The text references Jorge Luis Borges and includes commentary by Dorothée Tramoni, co-director of Showroom gallery in Paris.
