Leandro Erlich's First European Solo Museum Show Opens at Palazzo Reale
Leandro Erlich (b. 1973, Buenos Aires) presents 'Oltre la soglia' (Beyond the Threshold) at Palazzo Reale in Milan, his first solo exhibition at a European museum. Curated by Francesco Stocchi and organized by Arthemisia, the show features 19 works spanning from 1993 to the present, including iconic installations such as 'Swimming Pool', 'Living Room', 'Shikumen', 'Changing rooms', 'Classroom', and 'Lost garden'. Erlich, who studied philosophy at the Universidad de Buenos Aires and participated in the Core Program at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (1998), gained international recognition after the 2001 Venice Biennale representing Argentina. He has received the UNESCO Award and the Premio Leonardo from the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Buenos Aires. The exhibition, in development since his 2017 show at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, transforms museum spaces into immersive environments that challenge perception and encourage visitor interaction. Erlich describes his practice as a personal journey rather than a career, influenced by his family of architects. The multidisciplinary artist works across installation, sculpture, video, and painting, using architecture as a stage for questioning reality.
