Leading Culture Destinations Awards 2020: Italian Nominations for Cultural Tourism Oscars

The Leading Culture Destinations (LCD) Awards, described by the New York Times as the Oscars of museums, will hold its sixth edition in Berlin for the first time on March 4-5, 2020, thanks to a partnership with visitBerlin. The event, founded by Florian Wupperfeld, aims to create a dialogue between culture and travel. Professor Hermann Parzinger, president of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, supports the initiative. Over 50% of Berlin visitors cite culture as a key reason for their trip. The awards feature five categories with about 50 cultural destinations from 26 countries. Italy received two nominations: AlpiNN, a restaurant-refuge in the Dolomites by chef Norbert Niederkofler inside the new Lumen photography museum, competes in a category against Flutes at the Singapore National Museum and Beba at Gropius Bau in Berlin; and the exhibition "Sisters in Liberty" at the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration in New York, promoted by the Opera di Santa Croce in Florence, is nominated for best cultural collaboration. Other notable nominations include the National Museum of Qatar for best architecture, a Bacon and Giacometti exhibition at Fondation Beyeler, and Detroit's Heidelberg Project for Soft Power Destination of the Year.
