Leadership Shifts at MOCA Tucson, MoMA PS1, and The Kitchen

institutional · 2026-04-20

Kate Green will become Executive Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art Tucson in October, moving from her previous position as Senior Curator at the El Paso Museum of Art. She succeeds Interim Director and Curator Laura Copelin, who will remain in a curatorial role. Green expressed enthusiasm for MOCA Tucson's history with artists and local communities, its iconic building, and its border context, aiming to inform the institution's growth with input from creative and social justice communities. In New York, MoMA PS1's Chief Curator Peter Eleey will depart at year's end, citing pandemic impacts on the museum, city, and personal life as reasons for his decision. Eleey joined MoMA PS1 in 2010 and has served as Chief Curator since 2016, curating over 40 exhibitions during his tenure. He will continue working on future solo exhibitions with artists Deana Lawson and Gregg Bordowitz. His departure occurs as MoMA PS1 faces what Director Kate Fowle calls 'the most serious financial crisis' the museum has experienced, following a COVID-19-related closure and furlough of 70% of staff. Separately, Tim Griffin is leaving his role as Director and Chief Curator of The Kitchen, an influential experimental art space in New York, to become a visiting associate professor in art history and English at Ohio State University. Griffin, who joined The Kitchen in 2011, was previously editor-in-chief of Artforum.
