Lea Vergine Interview Published as Book by Postmedia Books

publication · 2026-04-27

A 2019 video interview with critic and curator Lea Vergine, originally published on Artribune, has been released as a limited-edition book titled 'Necessario è solo il superfluo' by Postmedia Books. The interview was part of the series 'L’arte è un delfino' created by artist and curator Stefania Gaudiosi, which features conversations with artists, designers, gallerists, philosophers, and musicians about the role of arts in contemporary society. The book's title derives from Vergine's statement that art is like a benzodiazepine—a refuge, not a necessity. It is the first publication from Sartoria Editoriale, a textile editorial workshop in Milan, part of the ArtCityLab project by Gianni Romano and Rossana Ciocca. The first ten copies were handmade at the Sartoria. Topics covered include Vergine's formation as a critic, the importance of art for education, the intertwining of personal and public life, and the cities of Naples and Milan.
