Lea Contestabile's Outsider Art Shown at Monitor Pereto
Galleria Monitor in Pereto showcases the work of Lea Contestabile (born 1949, Ortucchio), an artist who operates outside conventional art circles. This exhibition, curated by Paola Capata, marks Contestabile's inaugural solo presentation in a private gallery. Capata first encountered Contestabile's art during a 2021 exhibition curated by Manuela de Leonardis and later visited her studio in L'Aquila. In 1976, Contestabile became the first female professor at L'Aquila's Accademia di Belle Arti. Her artistic endeavors, particularly prominent around 1993-94, explore themes of body, home, and affection through a naive style. A highlight of the exhibition is the 'brides' series, which incorporates photographs taken by her father. Additionally, Contestabile established MUBAQ – Museo dei bambini in Fossa, L'Aquila, and has exhibited at Artissima, garnering interest from collectors.
