Le Quartier in Quimper Celebrates 20 Years with New Director Keren Detton

institutional · 2026-04-23

Founded in 1990, Le Quartier has become a major center in Brittany for contemporary art exhibitions and mediation, complementing nearby institutions such as Passerelle in Brest, the Galerie d'art et d'essai of Rennes-II University, La Criée in Rennes, and the Frac Bretagne. Its program is both forward-looking and educational. For thirteen years until 2008, it was effectively managed by Dominique Abensour, establishing a reputation for international openness with exhibitions focused on former Eastern Bloc countries and Armenia, and as a meticulous publisher of eighty catalogues to date. The institution is also known for supporting the production and presentation of specific works. The 20th anniversary was marked by special meetings and exhibitions, and introduced the new director, Keren Detton, who took over in 2009. Trained at the École du Louvre and Le Magasin in Grenoble, Detton is young but experienced, having worked as a gallery assistant on Rue Louise-Weiss and curated exhibitions in Indonesia, Israel, and the United Kingdom. Her policy is to support young international creation and entrust curatorial projects to young curators.
