Le Printemps de septembre 2007: Two Exhibitions in Toulouse
The 2007 edition of Le Printemps de septembre in Toulouse featured two distinct exhibitions: Hamsterwheel, an international project initiated by Franz West previously shown in Venice, and Wheeeeel, a survey of the young French art scene. Hamsterwheel occupied the Jacobins refectory with a conglomeration of works from about twenty artists, favoring spectacular pieces over intimate ones. Jean-Marc Bustamante's work stood out, and the exhibition is set to travel to Barcelona's Santa Monica Art Centre in autumn. Wheeeeel showcased artists mostly around thirty years old, benefiting from optimal display conditions across various Toulouse venues. The exhibition highlighted the heterogeneity and unselfconscious creativity of the French scene, spanning painting, installation, video, frescoes, and sound pieces. Notable artists included Mathieu Kleyebe Abonnenc at Croix-Baragnon, Katinka Bock at EDF Bazacle, Vincent Mauger at Maison éclusière, Élise Florenty at Fondation écureuil, Rémy Jacquier, Sophie Dubosc, Dewar and Gicquel, Stéphane Thidet, Julien Laforge, Nicolas Tourre, Emmanuelle Castellan, and Emmanuel Lagarrigue. The Abattoirs hosted larger projects, each artist given a separate space. The exhibition ran from September 21 to October 14, 2007.
