Le otto montagne: film adaptation of Paolo Cognetti's novel hits cinemas

The film adaptation of Paolo Cognetti's bestselling novel 'Le otto montagne' is now in cinemas. Directed by Felix van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch, the movie stars Alessandro Borghi and Luca Marinelli, who reunite after 'Non essere cattivo'. The cast also includes Filippo Timi, Elena Lietti, and Elisabetta Mazzullo. Presented at the Cannes Film Festival and awarded by the jury, the film explores friendship, family, and nature, shot in a 4:3 aspect ratio. Cognetti praised the directors for their human connection and the experience of walking together in the mountains. Van Groeningen said he fell in love with the book and spent two years on the mountains, while Vandermeersch noted they wrote a broad screenplay to include love, friendship, nature, fatherhood, life, and death. The story follows Bruno and Pietro: Bruno grew up in the mountains and cannot imagine leaving, while Pietro met him as a child and admired his authenticity. A paternal figure is crucial: Bruno has a bad relationship with his father, while Pietro's father cares for him. Borghi commented that the line between friendship and love is thin, and he and Marinelli have been friends for seven years.
