institutional · 2026-04-24

Le Monte Booker has been appointed as the new President and CEO of Newfields, which includes the Indianapolis Museum of Art, starting in October. Before this, he was the CFO at the Field Museum in Chicago, overseeing finance, security, and facility planning. At Newfields, he will work alongside Belinda Tate, the director of the Indianapolis Museum of Art. He succeeds Colette Pierce Burnette, who made history as the first Black American woman to lead the institution but resigned last November without providing reasons. Michael Kubacki filled in as interim President and CEO during the nine months following Charles L. Venable's exit, which was surrounded by controversy over a job listing that emphasized a traditional white art audience while aiming for diversity.
