Le centre du monde: Erwan Mahéo's Residency Traces Enter Frac Bretagne Collection
From March 22 to May 11, 2014, the Frac Bretagne in Rennes will host 'Le centre du monde,' highlighting a unique artist residency created by Erwan Mahéo. Between 2003 and 2011, twenty-three artists from around the globe, such as Isabelle Arthuis, Rachel Bacon, and Boris Beaucarne, engaged in Kervilahouen, located near the Fresnel lighthouse on Belle-Île-en-Mer. These artists were invited without the need for applications and received a modest stipend for books, leaving behind remnants of their creations. Erik Thys referred to the experience as 'on the island of one's own psyche.' The exhibition includes Mahéo's projects, like a library made from a mill ladder and cartographic embroidery. A book by Mahéo, narrating an imaginary figure's exploration of the project, is set to be released soon.
