Lazio Region Approves Street Art Law for Urban Regeneration
The Lazio Regional Council has approved a law titled "Disposizioni per la valorizzazione, promozione e diffusione della Street Art," aimed at using street art as a tool for urban regeneration and social integration. Proposed by Marta Leonori, Vice President of the Culture Commission and member of the Democratic Party, the law allocates €500,000 for 2021 and 2022 to fund public artworks. Municipalities must annually list available spaces for street art interventions and identify new "free walls," with these lists published online. Artists can participate in the Premio Lazio Street Art. Street art is also included in the EU 2021-27 programming guidelines. This is the second such law in Italy, following one in Apulia. Leonori expressed satisfaction, emphasizing the law's role in fostering non-conventional, participatory initiatives that attract tourists and promote public art. She thanked colleagues, Chief of Staff Ruberti, and council offices for their work.
