Lazio Region Announces €500-600K Creative Fund for Independent Art Spaces
During the presentation of the book VERA at Spazio In Situ in Rome, Lazio Region President Nicola Zingaretti announced a new creative fund of €500,000 to €600,000 to support independent art spaces, artists, and collectives. The fund will cover international exhibition projects, transport, and production costs. This follows a separate allocation of nearly €60 million for large cultural projects and heritage recovery in the region. The book VERA, edited by curator Damiana Leoni, documents eight independent spaces, over 50 artist studios, and 70 Italian artists across seven Rome neighborhoods including San Lorenzo, Tor Bella Monaca, Quadraro, Centocelle, Pietralata, Salario, and Trastevere. The presentation featured Leoni, Giuseppe Armogida of Spazio Mensa, and Zingaretti, hosted by artistic director Christophe Constantin. The independent spaces are also featured in the exhibition MATERIA NOVA at GAM – Galleria d’Arte Moderna di Roma, curated by Massimo Mininni, occupying all three museum floors. Constantin described these spaces as taking a stance and responsibility to try to change things, echoing Spazio In Situ's founding in 2016.
