Lawrence Carroll's Final Photographs on Extended View in Bruzella

exhibition · 2026-05-04

Three days before his death, Lawrence Carroll (1954–2019) inaugurated an exhibition of his photographs at the former kindergarten of Fondazione Rolla in Bruzella, Canton Ticino. The works were created after a long journey across the United States to a new city and home. In memory of the artist, Phil and Rosella Rolla extended the show for one year. The photographs feature flowers, marks, erasures, snowy landscapes, and trees reminiscent of early 20th-century pictorialist photography. The exhibition presents a poetic body of work that, in light of Carroll's death, reveals traces of mortality alongside affirmations of life, reflecting his characteristic subtle presence and deep sense of materiality.
