LAVA completes 6,000 sqm marketplace at Frankfurt Airport T3
LAVA has finalized a 6,000-square-meter Marketplace for Terminal 3 at Frankfurt Airport, a project initiated by Fraport AG. Situated beyond security, this area reimagines a transit zone into a community-oriented space through the use of computational design techniques. It includes sculptural islands clad in terrazzo, accommodating shops, lounges, and restaurants, which enhance visual connectivity and facilitate pedestrian movement. A distinctive parametric ceiling, resembling lava, features three conical structures that direct natural light, minimizing reliance on artificial illumination. This design incorporates 16,650 meters of aluminum tubing with 3,000 distinct shapes. Fraport representatives Harald Rohr and Stephanie Pudwitz highlighted the Marketplace's role in improving the passenger experience, while Alexander Rieck noted the aim of fostering reflective moments during waiting.
